Logan County schools made their presence felt at the 53rd Annual Max Evans Ohio Caverns Invitational on Saturday, with athletes from Benjamin Logan, Bellefontaine, and West Liberty-Salem turning in impressive performances across middle school and high school races. West Liberty-Salem High School The West Liberty-Salem Big Orange boys varsity team, ranked #4 in Division III statewide, won the invitational for the 8th straight year, edging #8 Cincinnati CHCA by just two points (61–63). Strong finishes came from Asher Cole (4th, 15:58), Caleb Larson (7th, 16:19), Dylan King (9th, 16:25), and Brayan Gullett (12th, 16:38). The JV boys also claimed victory, led by Gauge Lee (1st, PR 18:42), Zac Carter (2nd), and Zeke Sidders (3rd).
The Big Orange girls varsity team also captured 1st place out of 14 teams, paced by Malia Miller (2nd, 19:32), Addi Wallen (4th, 20:07), Isla Leichty (8th, 20:34), and Gwen McCullough (9th, 20:39). The win was an especially meaningful send-off for seniors Miller, McCullough, Ivy Matthews, and Emma Smith. In middle school races, WL-S athletes also excelled. The boys placed 1st overall, highlighted by Milo Matthews’ 1st place finish (11:13 PR), while the girls took 2nd, led by champion Nika Matthews (12:18 PR). Numerous WL-S runners brought home medals and personal bests. Bellefontaine High School The Bellefontaine boys varsity team finished 3rd out of 21 schools, led by a standout performance from Hayden Maus, who placed 3rd overall in 15:51. Other top Chieftain finishers included Jake Moreland (13th, 16:50) and Oliver Moreland (14th, 17:08). In the JV race, Nick Herrera Diaz led the way with a time of 20:30. The Bellefontaine Middle School boys earned a strong 3rd-place team finish. Medalists included Jackson Maus (8th, 11:50), Sennett Stolly (11th, PR 12:05), Camden Vollrath (20th, 12:37), and Bennett Lang (29th, 13:09). Several others set personal bests, rounding out an impressive day. On the girls’ side, Kylie Lowe medaled with a 10th-place finish (13:06 PR), while Myra Varner (17:45 PR) also turned in a personal best despite the team being short-handed due to injuries. Benjamin Logan Middle School Benjamin Logan’s middle school girls placed 6th overall out of 22 schools, led by medalists Pippa Zvansky (9th, 13:05) and Shelby Siefring (37th, 14:55). In the boys’ race, the Raiders finished 10th of 21 teams, with strong runs from Zayden Wilson (13:48) and John Tingley (14:49).
