Bellefontaine High School is once again buzzing with energy as it welcomes 293 students to the 21st annual Summer Enrichment Academy (SEA). This weeklong program, running June 9–13, brings together students entering grades 2–8 from Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, Indian Lake, Riverside, West Liberty-Salem, Calvary Christian, and area homeschool programs.
Participants are diving into a wide range of creative and academic courses designed to spark curiosity and build new skills. This year’s SEA features 21 unique classes, ranging from robotics and baking to crafts, broadcasting, and themed adventures in pop culture. Some of the offerings include:
  • Dreaming of Disney: A Magical Park Adventure
  • Race to Innovate: Vex IQ Robotics Challenge
  • WPKO Sports Broadcaster: Behind the Scenes
  • Platform 9 3/4: A Harry Pottery Adventure Awaits!
  • No-Bake Ninja: Easy Eats for Kids

The academy is held daily from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., with robotics classes hosted at Bellefontaine Middle School. Transportation is being provided for BCS students to help families participate more easily.

The Summer Enrichment Academy is a collaborative effort coordinated by Bellefontaine City Schools, Benjamin Logan Schools, Indian Lake Schools, and the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center. Coordinators for this year’s academy include Angie Horvath (Bellefontaine City Schools), Sally Stolly (Benjamin Logan), Kelli Tebbe (Indian Lake), and Erica Baer-Woods (Midwest Regional ESC and Riverside).

Local educators and community members serve as instructors, sharing their passion and expertise in a dynamic learning environment. Organizers note that the SEA is not just about academics—it’s about building life skills, fostering friendships across districts, and helping students explore their interests in a fun, hands-on way.

This year’s academy is made possible by generous support from local sponsors, including:
  • Affiliated Dermatology
  • AGC Automotive
  • Bellefontaine Lions Club
  • Belletech
  • Biggby
  • Duff Quarry
  • Eichholtz, Daring & Sanford Funeral Homes
  • Family Chiropractic Center
  • Lakeside Pro Bass
  • Mary Rutan Hospital
  • Middlefield Bank
  • Ohio Lumber
  • R.D. Holder Oil Company
  • Rotary Club
  • Stites
  • Steve Austin’s Auto Group
  • Stolly Insurance
  • United Midwest Savings Bank
    (and many more)

As SEA wraps up this Friday, students will leave with new skills, new friendships, and memories of a summer experience that blends learning with fun.
