Benjamin Logan Students Shine at Regional Science Day Competition

​Benjamin Logan students demonstrated outstanding achievement at the Ohio Academy of Science Regional Science Day, held at Ohio Northern University. Competing among top student researchers from across the region, Benjamin Logan participants earned high ratings and multiple category awards for their original scientific research projects.

Students receiving the highest distinction of Superior included Lottie Bodin, Winnie Bodin, Penelope Elliott, Lucy Johns and Ella Stoodt, Gwendolyn Smith, and Junah Tingley. These students showcased advanced understanding of scientific inquiry, strong experimental design, and the ability to effectively communicate their findings to a panel of judges.

Students earning Excellent ratings were Carter Fay and Gavin Reidmiller, along with Trina Smith, whose projects also reflected high-quality research and presentation skills.

In addition to overall ratings, several students earned Category Awards, recognizing top performance within specific scientific disciplines. Lottie Bodin was recognized in Animal Science; Lucy Johns and Ella Stoodt in Behavioral and Social Sciences; Gwendolyn Smith in Cellular and Molecular Biology; Winnie Bodin in Earth and Environmental Sciences; Trina Smith in Environmental Engineering; and Penelope Elliott in Microbiology.

Junah Tingley received special recognition, earning a full scholarship to attend the Ohio Northern University Pathways to STEM Summer Camp, an honor awarded to select students demonstrating exceptional promise in STEM fields.

Students advancing with Superior ratings will move on to State Science Day on May 16, where they will compete at the state level against Ohio’s top young scientists.

Additionally, Autumn Cline and Georgia Daniels submitted their projects digitally. Their results are pending.

The Regional Science Day experience provides students with an opportunity to engage in authentic scientific research, develop critical thinking skills, and present their work in a professional setting. Benjamin Logan’s strong showing reflects both student dedication and the support of teachers and mentors who guide them through the research process.
