Benjamin Logan Students Connect Literature to Real-World Learning Through Greenhouse Project

Students at Benjamin Logan High School are taking a hands-on approach to learning as part of an innovative project that connects literature with real-world experiences.

In Mrs. Lane’s Advanced English 11 classes, students are exploring stories centered around food while simultaneously working in the school’s greenhouse to grow their own herbs, vegetables, and flowers.

Working in teams, students are responsible for planting, nurturing, and maintaining their crops, creating a direct connection between the themes they study in class and the processes involved in food production.

The project is designed to deepen student understanding by blending academic content with experiential learning, allowing students to see how literature relates to everyday life. In addition to reinforcing classroom concepts, the experience also promotes teamwork, responsibility, and a greater awareness of food systems.

By integrating hands-on activities with traditional coursework, Benjamin Logan High School continues to provide opportunities that engage students in meaningful and practical ways.
