BCS Board Recognizes Scholarship Recipients, Sets Lunch Prices for 2025-26

The Bellefontaine City Schools Board of Education held its monthly meeting on Monday, June 3, spotlighting student achievement, approving staffing updates, and preparing for the upcoming school year.

A highlight of the meeting was the announcement of this year’s Board of Education Scholarship recipients. 

Eighteen graduating seniors were awarded scholarships funded by the Board and community partners, totaling more than $30,000. The awards include the prestigious Harold & Barbara Marker Academic Scholarships, with several students receiving $4,000 or more.

Additionally, the Board approved cafeteria pricing for the 2025-26 school year, continuing the district’s commitment to student wellness by offering free breakfast to all students. Lunch prices were set as follows:

• High School/Middle School: $2.55 (Reduced: $0.40)
• Intermediate/Elementary School: $2.30 (Reduced: $0.40)

Personnel UpdatesThe Board accepted seven staff resignations, including several teachers at the elementary and middle school levels. In their place, 12 new hires were approved across grades K–12, as well as one contract renewal and several summer and substitute appointments.

A number of supplemental positions were also filled, covering coaching, music, drama, and event supervision roles for the coming school year. Several volunteer coaches were approved to support student programming as well.

Other Business

• The Board voted to increase substitute teacher pay to $130 per day (previously $115).
• An athletic training services agreement was renewed with Mary Rutan Hospital.
• The Board entered executive session for the annual evaluations of the superintendent and treasurer.

• Special Session: June 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Board Office (executive session to discuss contract renewals)
• Next Regular Meeting: July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sloan Distance Learning Center, BHS
