The West Liberty-Salem Big Orange cross country program turned in an outstanding performance at the Columbus Grove Invitational on Saturday morning, with varsity, junior varsity, and junior high athletes all delivering strong results against top competition.
Varsity Boys The Tiger boys, ranked No. 3 in Division III, captured the Red Division championship with 64 points, edging Bryan (73) and Findlay (123). Sophomore Asher Cole highlighted the day with a school-record run of 15:31.5, finishing 2nd overall. He broke the record previously held by teammate Caleb Larson, who placed 3rd in 15:42.3. Rounding out the varsity scoring were Brayan Gullett (11th, 16:27 PR), Dylan King (13th, 16:32 SB), and Owen Hardwick (35th, 17:16 PR).
The Logan County Kiwanis Cross Country Championships were hosted by Indian Lake on Tuesday evening, showcasing strong performances from local runners. In the high school girls’ race, Indian Lake captured the team title with 29 points. Bellefontaine followed with 36, and Benjamin Logan placed third with 59 points.
Will Faler added another goal for the Lakers, while keeper Griffin Schaub turned in a strong performance with several key stops. The Lakers’ defense and relentless hustle across the field proved to be difference-makers in the match.
Head Coach Trees praised the Lady Raiders for their teamwork and balance, noting that 8 different players found the back of the net in the win. On top of the offensive explosion, the Raiders also secured a shutout to round out the impressive performance.
The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders hosted the Jonathan Alder Pioneers in a hard-fought volleyball matchup. Despite a strong start in the opening set, the Raiders fell to the Pioneers in four sets, 25-22, 10-25, 18-25, 17-25. Stat Leaders for Benjamin Logan:
