Ohio Hi-Point Students Advance to SkillsUSA Ohio State Competition

Several students from Ohio Hi-Point Career Center (OHP) advanced to the SkillsUSA Ohio State Championships after placing at the regional contest.
 
The Central Regional SkillsUSA contest, held Feb. 21 at Delaware Area Career Center, showcased OHP students' strong
technical and leadership skills across multiple categories, competing against more than 500 students from central Ohio.

The following students advanced to the SkillsUSA state competition:
Carpentry
  • Ian Schmidt, Construction Trades (Calvary Christian) – 4th place
Customer Service:
  • Taryn Tate, Cosmetology (Waynesfield-Goshen) – 2nd place
Extemporaneous Speaking:
  • Carla Juarez, Welding (Marysville) – 3rd place
Industrial Motor Control:
  • Alexander Boyer, HVAC (West Liberty-Salem) – 4th place
Job Interview:
  • Kassandra Prine, Cosmetology (Bellefontaine) – 4th place
Job Skills Demonstration A:
  • Xavier Napper, Graphic & Media Arts Academy (Bellefontaine) – 1st place
Job Skills Demonstration Open:
  • Victoria Shahan, Cosmetology (Indian Lake) – 2nd place
Nail Care:
  • Danielle Cottingham, Spa Technologies (Bellefontaine) – 3rd place
Teamwork:
  • Gavin Boyle, Construction Trades (Kenton); Chase Ritz, Construction Trades (Triad); Jacob McDaniel, HVAC (Benjamin Logan); Nash Schneider, HVAC (Benjamin Logan) – 3rd place
  • Vincent Bibart, HVAC (Benjamin Logan); Naaman Stidham, Construction Trades (West Liberty-Salem); Michael Gregg, Construction Trades (Triad); Kyan Thomas, Construction Trades (Marysville) – 4th place

Additionally, students from Ohio Hi-Point’s Heavy Equipment Operations program competed at the SkillsUSA Heavy Equipment Operations contest at the Union Training Center in Logan, Ohio, on Feb. 19. All three OHP competitors qualified for the state finals:
  • Jaxon Hall (Graham) – 1st place overall
  • Wyatt Spitler (Graham) – Top 15
  • Zack Maser (Urbana) – Top 15
 
“We are extremely proud of our students,” said Brad Richardson, OHP assistant superintendent, “They’ve worked really hard to get here, and we’re excited to see them compete at the state level.”
 
These students will compete at the SkillsUSA Ohio Leadership Conference on March 18-19 in Columbus, where they will showcase their skills against top career-technical students from across the state.
