Mary Rutan Health Responds to Recent Report, Reaffirms Financial Strength and Long-Term Stability

​Mary Rutan Health is addressing recent reports suggesting certain Ohio hospitals may be at risk of closure, reaffirming that the organization is not in danger of closing and remains well-positioned to continue serving the region for years to come.
 
Recent media coverage, based on a national policy analysis, included Mary Rutan Health on a list of hospitals identified as potentially at risk due to broader healthcare reimbursement pressures. While the report reflects ongoing challenges facing hospitals nationwide, it does not reflect the current financial strength or operational stability of Mary Rutan Health.

​“We are not in danger of closing and remain strongly positioned to serve our community now and into the future,” said Chad Ross, President and CEO of Mary Rutan Health. “While we are not certain of the criteria used to develop this list, it does not accurately represent our organization’s financial health or long-term outlook.”
 
Like many hospitals across the country, Mary Rutan Health has experienced industry-wide pressures, including rising costs and reimbursement challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic. While these factors have impacted net operating margins, the organization continues to maintain positive earnings when accounting for non-cash expenses such as depreciation, along with a strong cash position and low debt levels.
 
“These are important indicators of financial stability,” Ross added. “They allow us to effectively manage through the normal ups and downs of the healthcare environment while continuing to invest in services, technology and access to care for our community.”
 
Mary Rutan Health also noted that potential changes to Medicaid reimbursement remain a concern for healthcare providers nationwide, particularly for rural and community-based systems. Any future reductions could impact how certain services are delivered, both locally and across the country.
 
“Medicaid funding plays a critical role in ensuring access to care, especially in rural communities,” Ross said. “While proposed changes are concerning for the healthcare industry as a whole, Mary Rutan Health is well-positioned to navigate these challenges.”
