As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we honor the extraordinary achievements of Nicole Fawcett, a volleyball star from Zanesfield and a 2005 graduate of Benjamin Logan High School. Nicole is one of the most accomplished and decorated athletes to emerge from Logan County, setting numerous school, conference, and state records, including Ohio’s unofficial all-time leader in kills.

During her high school career, Nicole was named all-conference and all-district each of her four years at Ben Logan, and she was a three-time District Player of the Year. She earned First Team All-Ohio honors in
her sophomore, junior, and senior years. In the summer of 2004, Nicole was one of twelve high school girls selected to play on the gold medal-winning team at the NORCECA Junior Continental Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Nicole's talent attracted the attention of top college volleyball programs, and she ultimately chose Penn State University. At Penn State, she continued to excel, earning First Team All-Big Ten honors all four years and being named the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2008. Nicole was also named an All-American each year, culminating in her senior year when she was named the National Player of the Year. She helped her team to their second consecutive NCAA championship and set a record for consecutive wins. In recognition of her achievements, Benjamin Logan High School retired her #2 jersey and later inducted her into its Hall of Fame.

Nicole's volleyball career extended beyond college as she played professionally in South America and China. She was an alternate for the U.S. Women’s Olympic Volleyball team in 2012 and 2016 and played in numerous international tournaments for the U.S. National Team. Today, Nicole continues to contribute to the sport as an assistant coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes women’s volleyball team.

Nicole Fawcett's journey from a high school standout to an international volleyball star and coach is a testament to her dedication, talent, and perseverance. Her story inspires young athletes and highlights the impact one woman can have in the world of sports.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate Nicole Fawcett's stellar career and her contributions to volleyball. Her legacy continues to inspire and uplift the next generation of athletes.
