Benjamin Logan Local Schools Superintendent John Scheu has announced his intention to retire, with his final day of service scheduled for July 31, 2026. The Benjamin Logan Board of Education will formally consider and approve his retirement at its January 12, 2026 board meeting.

Scheu has served the Benjamin Logan school community for the past six years, beginning as interim superintendent before being appointed to the permanent role. 

His career in education spans 52 years, with his time at Benjamin Logan marking one of the most meaningful chapters of his professional life.

During his tenure, the district achieved several notable milestones, including:

• Completion of the new track and turf project, providing enhanced opportunities for students and the community
• Strengthened financial stability, ending Fiscal Year 2025 in the black for the first time in more than a decade
• Improved academic performance, earning a B+ rating on the 2024 state report card and a B rating in 2025
• Enhanced school safety measures, including the addition of three School Resource Officers and a trained backup safety team.

“These accomplishments reflect the collective dedication of our Board, staff, students, families, and community partners,” Scheu said. “Benjamin Logan is truly one of the best school districts around, and it has been an honor to serve such an exceptional community.”

Scheu shared his retirement plans with district staff on Wednesday, emphasizing his appreciation for their professionalism, commitment, and contributions to the district’s success. He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting a smooth leadership transition over the coming year.

The Benjamin Logan Board of Education will begin planning for the leadership transition following formal action at the January meeting. Additional information regarding the superintendent search process will be shared with the community at a later date.
