Benjamin Logan Board of Education Meeting Highlights

The Benjamin Logan Board of Education met on December 11, 2024, with key items discussed and celebrated throughout the evening.

Board Actions and Recognitions:
  • The Board approved the November 18 meeting minutes.​
  • OSBA Media Honor Roll: April King (Peak of Ohio, V-Teck Communications) and Sharyn Kopf (Bellefontaine Examiner) were recognized for their outstanding contributions to fair and insightful education reporting.
  • Logan County Electric Cooperative Contribution: CEO Tim Street presented the district with a $11,600 capital credit check.
Student Achievements:
  • December Seniors of the Month: Mia Stahler and Eric Hughes will be honored at the January 13 board meeting.
  • The Quiz Bowl Team received approval for an overnight trip to the Small School National Championship in Illinois from April 25-27, 2025.

Administrative Updates:
  • Special Education Snapshot: Colleen Bodin, Director of Special Education, highlighted the district’s support for 189 students with IEPs and emphasized ongoing professional development and strong community partnerships.
  • Superintendent Report: Benjamin Logan High School has been named a Top 3 finalist in the Jostens® Epic School Revamp™ Contest. A site visit and pep rally will take place on Thursday, December 19, to showcase Raider pride.

Treasurer’s Financial Report:
  • November’s financials were approved, including a $500 grant for agricultural initiatives.

Personnel Updates:
  • Resignations for retirement were accepted for Susan Headings (Guidance Counselor), Andy Higgins (School Psychologist), Tammy James (Educational Assistant), and Brenda Mitchell (Bus Driver).
  • New substitutes and supplemental appointments, including Charity Zimmerman as Musical Director, were approved.

Donations and Volunteer Services:
  • Notable donations included $465 in memory of Delores Pettit and cheer signs valued at $630.
  • Valerie Kerns was approved as an Indoor Track Coach volunteer.

Upcoming Events:
  • Let’s Talk: February 12, 2025, at 7 PM, Hays Community Center in West Mansfield.
  • The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for January 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM.

The meeting concluded with an executive session to discuss personnel matters before adjournment.
