Benjamin Logan Board of Education Holds November Meeting

The Benjamin Logan Board of Education met on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Central Conference Room. The meeting focused on district business, with public participation following Board Bylaw 0169.1.
Key Actions Taken
  • Free Student Admission Approved: The Board approved free student admission to athletic events for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year. Students must obtain tickets through Hometown Ticketing, with younger students (6th grade and below) requiring adult accompaniment.
  • Brand Standards Guide Adopted: The Board approved the Benjamin Logan Brand Standards Guide, the result of the district’s logo modernization initiative launched in September 2024. This project included input from 480 stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, alumni, and community members.
  • Seniors of the Month Recognized: November honorees Paityn Anspach and Hunter Andrix were celebrated for their achievements.
​Administrative Highlights
  • Supt. Scheu congratulated Indian Lake and West Liberty football teams and wished them luck. Scheu noted that Benjamin Logan did put in a bid to host a playoff game, but Piqua was selected.
  • Substitute teachers will be recognized on November 22, 2024.
  • A “Let’s Talk School” event is scheduled for December 5, 2024, at Zanesfield Heritage Hall at 7pm. Pizza provided courtesy of Firehouse Pizza.
  • Senate Bill 104 update.

Financial UpdatesTreasurer/CFO Leah Baker presented the October 2024 financial reports, which included:
  • A $295 grant from Google.org for Middle School FIRST Team Registration.
  • Confirmation that all October expenses served proper public purposes.
  • Five Year Forecast Approved: The Board approved the district’s Five Year Forecast as presented, outlining the district’s financial planning and projections. The topic of pre-school was a huge discussion.

Personnel Updates
  • ESC Substitute list approved at the rate of $115 per day
  • Employment of Personnel – Deduct Days:
    • Kandie Brown: The Board approved deduct days for Kandie Brown after she utilized all personal and sick leave, as per district policy.
  • Supplemental Contracts Approved for 2024-2025:
    • Sage Caughenbaugh: Approved as High School Student Council Advisor at Step 0.
    • Jaycee Murray: Hired as a Transportation Substitute for the 2024-2025 school year.
    • Nikki King: Approved as an substitute Education Assistant, effective November 6, 2024, to work on an as-needed basis at her current hourly rate.
  • Volunteer Positions Approved:
    • Kerri Sullivan: Boys Bowling Coach.
    • Deb Ward: Girls Bowling Coach.
  • Early Graduation Approved:
    • Isabella Cavallini: Approved for early graduation in January 2025, with her diploma to be awarded in May.
  • Resignations:
    • Michael Dove: Resigned as High School Musical Director for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Terminations:
    • Kristen Hale: The supplemental contract for JV Basketball Cheer Coach was terminated for the 2024-2025 school year.


Overnight Trips Approved
The Board approved several overnight trips for students, parents, and chaperones, including:
  • FFA Events:
    • June 2-6, 2025: Ohio FFA Camp, Carrollton, OH.
    • October 28–November 1, 2025: National FFA Convention, Indianapolis, IN.
  • Wrestling Events:
    • December 26-27, 2024: GMVWA Tournament, Vandalia, OH.
    • March 1-2, 2025: OHSAA District Tournament, Wilmington, OH.
    • March 8-10, 2025: OHSAA State Tournament, Columbus, OH.

Policy Update 43.1 - First Reading and Review
Donations AcceptedThe Board accepted a $2,000 donation from the Mental Health Drug/Alcohol Service Board to purchase rolls of tickets for school events.

The Board’s next regular meeting will take place on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Central Conference Room.
