Ben Logan Environmental Science Club Hikes with Local Tree Experts at Myeerah

​"Mad BUCK"—is it a Buckeye fan? Or maybe a deer buck during rutting season? Actually, the saying "Mad Buck" is a clever way to remember Maple, Ash, Dogwood, and Buckeye trees, the only native trees with opposite branching—where branches grow directly across from each other on the main stem.

This and much more was shared with students by Steve McGinnis, Service Forester. The club learned fascinating facts about trees, including how to identify them in winter, the unique fruits they produce, and the critical role native trees play in supporting our environment.

The annual tree hike at Myeerah Preserve was a highlight, with participants enjoying hot chocolate and snacks afterward.
