Competing against some of the top youth drivers in the country, Wickham showcased the determination, skill, and poise that have made him one of Logan County’s rising young athletes. In his first-ever CKNA event — and first Grand Nationals appearance — Jerome faced an intense learning curve, including adjusting to a new tire compound unique to the national series. Despite the challenge, he delivered an outstanding performance, qualifying 2nd out of 39 drivers, many of whom were seasoned champions with years of experience.
Throughout the weekend, Jerome and his team worked tirelessly to fine-tune the kart’s setup. His heat race finishes of 5th, 7th, and 10th reflected the team’s experimentation as they searched for the perfect tire pressure balance. By the final race, their adjustments paid off. Starting 6th in the 18-lap main event, Jerome quickly surged to 4th place, holding strong among some of the nation’s most experienced drivers. Unfortunately, a last-lap incident involving contact from a veteran competitor caused him to fall to 15th at the finish. Even so, his performance earned recognition and respect across the paddock. “This was a huge step for Jerome,” said his father. “He proved he can compete with the best in the country — and he did it with less experience but a lot of heart.” Wickham now returns to compete in the KRA Championship, where he is aiming for a Top 3 season finish.
