The Bellefontaine Police Department (BPD) has introduced a Camera Registration Program, aiming to strengthen community safety through collaboration with residents and businesses. This voluntary initiative allows property owners to register their private security cameras with BPD, creating a network that can assist in criminal investigations.

Program Overview:
By enrolling in the program, participants provide BPD with information about their security camera systems, including locations and recording capabilities. This registry enables officers and detectives to swiftly identify nearby cameras that may have captured pertinent footage during an incident, thereby expediting investigations and enhancing crime-solving efforts.
Key Features:
  • Voluntary Participation: Residents and business owners can choose to register their cameras at their discretion.
  • Confidentiality: All provided information is kept confidential and is accessible only to authorized BPD personnel.
  • No Direct Access: Registration does not grant BPD direct access to camera feeds. It simply informs them of the camera's existence and location.

How to Register:
  1. Visit the Camera Registration Program page on the City of Bellefontaine’s official website.
  2. Complete the registration form with details about your camera system.
  3. Submit the form to have your information securely stored by BPD.

Participants can opt out of the program at any time by notifying BPD via email at [email protected].

Benefits to the Community:
This program fosters a collaborative environment between the police department and the community, aiming to deter criminal activity and promote public safety. By creating a network of registered cameras, BPD can more effectively gather evidence and solve crimes, ultimately contributing to a safer Bellefontaine.

For more information and to access the registration form, visit the Camera Registration Program page on the City of Bellefontaine’s website.
