Bellefontaine High School Relay for Life Raises More Than $1,200 for Cancer Research and Support

Students and staff at Bellefontaine High School came together Friday afternoon for a successful Relay for Life event, raising more than $1,200 to support cancer research, patient services, and awareness efforts.

Due to rainy weather, this year’s Relay for Life was moved indoors, but that did not

stop participants from making the most of the annual event. Students and staff began the celebration by walking a ceremonial lap through the school before enjoying a variety of games, activities, and fundraising opportunities organized by student groups.

Activities included tattooing a teacher, featuring Principal Cliff Core and Assistant Principal Kyle Reinhard, along with cake pops, snow cones, popsicles, Plinko, an arrow game, ceramics and craft sales, a duck pond, water pong, and a photo booth.

The one-hour event raised more than $1,200, including proceeds from T-shirt sales.

Relay for Life is the fundraising arm of the American Cancer Society, supporting cancer patients, promoting awareness and early detection, and funding research for new treatments. The organization is one of the nation’s largest private funders of cancer research.

The Bellefontaine High School event was organized by teacher Michelle Rohrer and members of the National Honor Society.

“Despite the rain, it was a successful event for the building,” Rohrer said. “Students took one ceremonial lap inside, then the fun began. Students played games and ate the carnival-themed food. Overall, it helped raise money for some great organizations that do amazing things for people battling cancer.”

The event also marked the final day of classes for Bellefontaine High School seniors, providing a meaningful way to conclude their school year while supporting an important cause.
