Barhorst Secures $3 Million for Logan County, $24 Million for TRC in Capital Budget

The Ohio House of Representatives today passed Substitute House Bill 2, the state’s two-year construction budget for capital projects throughout the state. The Capital Budget will make historic investments in local community projects, announced State Rep. Tim Barhorst (R-Fort Loramie).

Barhorst secured the following capital investments for local projects that will positively impact Logan County:
  • Calvary Christian Schools – $250,000
  • Logan County Sewer District Flat Branch Upgrades – $1,500,000
  • Columbus Street Bridge Repair – $1,265,000
  • Piatt Castle - $44,000
“The capital budget is all about bringing state taxpayer dollars back to the area,” said Barhorst. “The investments made within Logan County, the district and across Ohio will benefit our communities for generations to come.”

In addition to these community projects, this legislation also includes a statewide investment of $24 million to Transportation Research Center Inc. using one-time funds.

“TRC is a critical asset for the 85th District and the robust automotive industry throughout our great state,” said Barhorst. “These funds will ensure TRC will remain on the forefront of transportation and mobility research.”

Dr. Sloan Summer Wellness for Teens
Zanesfield, OH – The Dr. Sloan Library is thrilled to announce its Summer Wellness Series, starting June 24, 2024. This free, six-week program for teens aged 13-17 combines literary discussions and yoga classes to inspire creativity, learning, and well-being.

Program Schedule:

  • Monday, July 1 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Monday, July 8 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

ANN VOGEL RETIRES AFTER 32 YEARS OF INSPIRING EXCELLENCE AND TRADITION IN WEST LIBERTY-SALEM GIRLS' SPORTS

Ann Vogel, the admired former head coach of girls' cross country and track and field, has retired after a remarkable 32-year career dedicated to inspiring and nurturing young athletes. Known for her unwavering commitment, Vogel leaves behind a legacy of sportsmanship, mentorship, and advocacy for young women in sports.

Reflecting on her three decades of coaching, Vogel recalled how their team stood out for their sportsmanship: "Our girls were so well-liked by their competitors. Accepting the competition as people who can make them better and challenge them was key. Meet officials would come to me and tell me that our athletes were the most polite and friendly kids, and that means a lot. It’s the standard our team has carried on for 30 years."

Boyce Street Athletic Complex, June 21-22, 2024 – Next weekend marks the 30th anniversary of the Cham-Lo tournament, a fun summer event for high school soccer teams in Logan and Champaign counties. Held annually on a Friday and Saturday during the summer, Cham-Lo has become a highlight of the local sports calendar. Matches will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

CORS Head Start is now accepting enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year, offering a free full-day, five days a week preschool program. Located at 613 Hamilton St, the program provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks to enrolled children.

Parents interested in registering their
preschoolers can visit CORS Head Start on any Wednesday without an appointment. Simply stop by to learn more about the program and begin the enrollment process.
