Base, moved away from the area and eventually settled in Texas. There, he blossomed into a gifted children’s book author and illustrator, creating whimsical stories that captured the hearts of young readers.
Years later, Moon and Schrencengost reconnected through Facebook. Their reconnection was more than just a stroll down memory lane—it was a rediscovery of shared inspiration. Rocky generously gifted Mary a set of his published books, showcasing his storytelling talent and artistic creativity. Sadly, Rocky passed away unexpectedly in August. Following his passing, his widow sent Mary additional books and character-themed plush toys based on Rocky’s work. Wanting to ensure his creativity would continue to spark young imaginations, Mary donated the collection to the Bellefontaine Elementary Library. Now, Rocky’s stories—and the characters he lovingly created—live on in the hands of new generations of Bellefontaine students. This meaningful gesture from teacher to student, and now from author to children, is a powerful tribute to the lasting impact of education and imagination. Through this donation, Rocky Schrencengost’s legacy as both a writer and a former Bellefontaine student will continue to enrich young lives for years to come. Not receiving our content regularly?
