Benjamin Logan delivered strong performances across the track and field events, with athletes stepping up throughout the evening as the team fought through multiple lead changes.

Leading the way was standout athlete Abby Vance, who earned Outstanding Meet Performer honors after capturing conference championships in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and long jump. Vance also anchored the first-place 4x100 relay team alongside Daylin Varner, Storm LeVan, and Scarlett Elliott.

The Lady Raiders also received runner-up finishes from:

• The 4x800 relay team of Elliott Butler, Lucy Wenger, Peyton Smith, and Lottie Bodin
• The 4x200 relay team of Daylin Varner, Adelina Ramsey, Scarlett Elliott, and Aleah France
• The 4x400 relay team of Peyton Smith, Lauren Kennedy, Daylin Varner, and Aleah France
• Madi Oakes in high jump
• Scarlett Elliott in pole vault
• Autumn Cline in shot put

Lily Studebaker was also recognized with the CBC Sportsmanship Award.

Coaches praised the team’s composure and determination throughout the meet.

“The conference meet was everything we thought it would be,” coaches said. “Our athletes gave the type of effort that is needed in a championship run. They did not give up but battled back when the tide turned against them.”

Coaches also highlighted Abby Vance’s performance and leadership during the championship effort.

“She was the spark we needed to keep us in the game. She gave us big points when we needed them.”

The Chiefs bounced back in the third-place match, defeating Kenton Ridge’s Patch and Doss in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-4, to secure their spot at districts.

With the sectional performance, Young and Lotts improved to 19-1 on the season.

Bellefontaine will now prepare for district-level competition next week against some of the top doubles teams in the region.

School officials shared that individual athlete features will be highlighted on Indian Lake Schools’ social media platforms and website in the coming weeks.

In addition to the athletes recognized Wednesday, bowlers Addison Castle and Jeremiah Galbraith previously held separate signing ceremonies earlier this spring at T-P Lanes. Both students will continue their bowling careers at Edison State Community College.

Indian Lake Schools congratulated all of the student-athletes on their accomplishments and wished them continued success in college and beyond.

​During the offseason, Jerome began strength and conditioning training at Anytime Fitness, where Coach Ariel developed a kart-racing-specific program focused on building the muscle groups needed to handle the increased demands of a full-size kart and higher horsepower engine.

Jerome opened the 2026 season March 28 at Music City Motorplex near Nashville, Tennessee, competing alongside his Pivot Racing teammates. In his Junior KA100 debut, Jerome qualified and finished 2nd in class while also placing 2nd overall against both Junior and Senior KA100 competitors — outperforming all of the older senior-class drivers.

The move to Junior KA100 marks a major step forward in Jerome’s racing career. After previously competing in cadet classes with speeds approaching 60 mph, Jerome now pilots a full-size kart powered by an 18-horsepower two-stroke engine capable of speeds exceeding 70 mph. The larger chassis and tires also create significantly higher cornering forces and physical demands on the driver.

Jerome’s 2026 schedule continued with the Kart Racers of America Championship beginning April 12. April included three race weekends, highlighted by events at New Castle Motorsports Park and Motorsports Country Club of Cincinnati. Jerome earned finishes of 6th and 13th at New Castle after battling back from an early-race incident, followed by a 12th-place finish in Cincinnati while continuing to work through chassis setup challenges on a track he had only visited once before.

The month of May showed major improvement. Returning to New Castle for round three of the championship, Jerome and his team made significant progress with kart setup and adapting to the larger kart, increased horsepower, and added weight requirements. The improvements resulted in a strong 5th-place finish and continued momentum heading into the heart of the season.

Jerome’s next event will take place June 7 at New Castle, with two races scheduled in June and two more in July. On July 18, Jerome will travel to Trackhouse Motorplex , Mooresville NC, to compete at a new track while also meeting with Rooster Media Productions, a new sponsor for the 2026 season, along with potential future sponsor LYVZ Energy Drink.

• Joplin Schneider finished fourth in high jump (4-06)
• Autumn Cline earned second in shot put (32-04.50)

The Lady Raiders also scored points in the 1600-meter run, where Lucy Wenger placed fifth and Peyton Smith finished sixth.

Several Benjamin Logan athletes also qualified for Friday’s finals:

• Abby Vance qualified first in the 100-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash
• Aleah France advanced in the 400-meter dash
• Storm LeVan qualified in both hurdle events
• Sarah Miller also advanced in the 100 and 300 hurdles
• Scarlett Elliott qualified for the 200-meter finals

Coaches praised the team’s effort and focus during the opening round of the conference meet.

“We had a good start on day one,” coaches said. “We competed well. We set ourselves up to make a run for the Mad River Division championship.”

The CBC Championships will conclude Friday, May 15, at Jonathan Alder High School, with field events beginning at 4:30 p.m. and running finals scheduled for 5 p.m.

He said Ohio Northern stood out because of its nationally recognized engineering program and the strong relationships he built with the cross country and track programs. His father also serves as the men’s and women’s cross country and track coach at ONU.

Maus leaves Bellefontaine with one of the most accomplished distance-running careers in school history. His achievements include:

• Two-time CBC cross country champion
• CBC champion in the 3200-meter run
• School record holder in the 5K with a time of 15:33
• Cross country All-Ohio honoree with a 15th-place state finish
• Indoor track All-Ohio selection in the 3200-meter run
• Indoor 3200-meter national qualifier
• Four-time First-Team All-CBC selection in cross country

At Ohio Northern, Maus plans to study mechanical engineering.
Reflecting on his decision, Maus said the university offered everything he was looking for academically and athletically.

“I chose Ohio Northern because it checked all the boxes,” Maus said. “I wanted a smaller school with a great engineering program, and Ohio Northern ranks 12th in the nation for engineering. Visiting ONU felt like home, and I have a great relationship with the team and the coaching staff as well.”

Maus also spoke about the mentality required to compete at a high level in distance running.

“There is a rare trait in certain runners that can be hard to find, and it's not being afraid to make it hurt,” he said. “To reach the higher level, you need to learn to love the pain.”

He added that competing collegiately has been a longtime goal.

“It feels very rewarding to be able to solidify my future with a great program and to display my hard work,” Maus said. “My goals would be to break school records at ONU, compete in multiple national meets, and possibly leave college as a national champion.”

Maus has maintained a 4.1 grade point average at Bellefontaine High School and is the son of Jason and Lindsey Maus.

“Hayden had some talent in middle school, but really excelled in high school because of his exceptional work ethic,” Davis said.

• Charlie Buffkin won the pole vault at 10-0
• The 4x200 relay team of Santiago Solano, Carter Crumm, Nevada Coleman, and Stone Angles captured first place
• Hayes Boysel claimed the 200-meter dash title

The Raiders also set a new school record in the 4x800 relay as Quinn Kuba, Marshall Elliott, Cayde Buck, and Bentley Harrat finished second with a time of 9:45.66.

Additional top performances included runner-up finishes by Hayes Boysel in the 100-meter dash, Kellen Woodruff in the 200-meter hurdles, and the 4x400 relay team.

On the girls side, the Lady Raiders finished third overall with 89.5 points behind Jonathan Alder and Springfield Shawnee.

Seventh grader Pippa Zvansky delivered one of the top performances of the meet, earning three individual CBC championships in the:

• 400-meter dash
• 200-meter hurdles
• 200-meter dash

The Lady Raiders also received strong performances from:

• Isabella Wohlgamuth, who placed second in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash
• The 4x200 relay team of Jazmine McGue, Della Baker, Katie Shafer, and Adelia Leonard, which finished third
• Juliana Chapman, who placed fifth in shot put
• Kali Shirk, who earned fourth in pole vault
